Secularism

Had a one-on-one meeting with the GSL this evening. Basically they do a thing where, because there is so much training, you can meet up with a ‘training validator’ and talk about previous experiences so they can mark some of the training as complete.

Most interesting thing that came out of this was a discussion about how Scouting is a secular organisation and how in the last couple of years they have created alternative scout promises that you can get invested with if you are Jewish, Muslim, atheist, or even Agnostic Catholic (cc Chris Hewins)

If the 8th wants to be more inclusive, it might be worth adding these to our POR? Accommodating for children who are not Christian.

The humanist Scout promise:

On my honour, I promise that I will  do my best to help other people,

.... To uphold our Scout values, to do my duty to the country in which I am now living,

and to keep the Scout  Law.
