So the Cub pack in Greenwich have a parent helper every week. A few notes about how they do it.
It’s a parent who makes the rota for the term and sends it out. Doesn’t ask for availability, rather tells people to contact them if they can’t make it so they can organise a swap.
What if there’s a safeguarding issue with the parent and their child? “If they are the parent on the contact details sheet, there isn’t an issue as they’re the emergency contact"
General SA policy (as far as I can tell) is that parents can’t help out more than one night a month without a DBS check. There was a time when one parent swapped with someone and ended up coming twice in a month and this reminded them that she shouldn’t really do that without DBS.
Here are the SA rules about when a parent becomes an ‘occasional helper’ and needs to be DBS checked and have some formal training: https://members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources/4020/occasional-helpers-and-section-assistants-faqs?cat=268,271,279,595&moduleID=10
